West Point Class of 1977 Integrity Counts!!
I grew up in a town called Streamwood, Illinois which is a blue collar community located about 40 miles outside of Chicago with my 2 sisters and brother. We were living a very basic existence, which I can honestly say was not easy when all of your friends that you were growing up with just seem to have more. I knew at a very young age that in order to make things happen, it was going to depend totally on me. I thank God for the fact that at some points in my life teachers gave me enough encouragement that I started to believe that I could accomplish anything that I focused on. I was also fortunate to have great childhood friends who were also very positive and encouraging.
While I was in high school, I mentored closely with our high school counselor, Melvin Peters who inspired me to apply for an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. I had to compete with many deserving young men for only one Congressional slot from Chicago and the outlying suburban areas. Even though I did not receive an immediate appointment to West Point for the next academic year in 1972, I was selected to attend the United States Military Academy Prep School in Fort Belvoir, VA. I was admitted to West Point the following year in 1973 and graduated in 1977. This of course was a life changing event, because it taught me the value of focus, hard work and determination.
I served a multitude of leadership and staff positions as an infantry and staff officer, and was especially grateful and humbled for the opportunity to lead our courageous young men in combat units. I left active duty after the first gulf war to pursue a growing interest in the financial services industry, which lead me to being a mortgage banker and broker. I have been in this field for over four years, and chose this field over many others because I saw my values of integrity, compassion and community could make a real difference in the lives of hard working families wanting to better their finances. My attitude is that I can assist every family no matter what their circumstances are, because to me it's about empowering my clients with home financing knowledge that gives them the confidence to make informed decisions based upon THEIR overall financial goals. Another one of my objectives is for my clients to have enough information that they can clearly see through the "smoke and mirrors" home financing advertisements that is so prevalent on radio and TV.
I have been married for over 13 years now to Yvette(she IS my best friend) and I have two beautiful daughters. Collette is 28 years old and lives in Woodinville, WA and our 12 year old daughter, Mikhaella, swims for the Metro Parks Aquatic Club in Tacoma, WA. Our Shitzu / Maltese mix, 3 year old "Snuggles" has also trained our family very well. Yvette has been with me in the business for over two years, and we are perfect business partners because she is always looking for ways to serve our clients even better. Since we live in the Puget Sound area, we love to do some sightseeing, beach combing, claming and trail walking. We also enjoy playing tennis as a family, and the ladies gang up against me! Since Yvette is from the Philippines, we do occasionally get back to the Philippines and do lots of snorkeling, sightseeing, relaxing, eating and more eating."
